  • THE LIBRARY WILL BE OPEN ON MONDAY, JANUARY 15 - MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY.  WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU HERE!

    * College Scholarships:  the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation is delighted to announce its 12th annual college scholarship essay competition, open to any high school senior who resides in the Warwick Valley Central School District.  Please find the topic, guidelines and submission deadline here.

    * Homework Help is Back!  The Children's Department is happy to announce that after-school homework help is available for children in grades K-5.  Volunteers are on hand on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-5:30.  For more information, please call Melissa Mazzella at (845) 986-1047, ext. 4.

    * New York Blood Center Blood Drive:  the New York Blood Center will host a blood drive at AWPL on Wednesday, January 17 from 1:30pm - 6:00pm in the Community Room.  The recent holidays and cold weather have decreased donations and inventory.  Need is vital for O and O-negative blood types, but donations of all blood types are needed.  No registration necessary.

    * Irish Immigrant Women:  on Monday, January 29 at 6:30pm, author and historian Margaret Lynch-Brennan will offer a portrait of the lives and experiences of young Irish women who emigrated to the United States between 1840-1930 and worked as domestic servants.  Popularly called "Bridget," they helped shape the place of the Irish in America even as they acculturated and absorbed the values of their employers.  Lynch-Brennan gives voice to the "Irish Bridgets," celebrating their contribution to the ethnic history of the United States.  Join us for this fascinating talk; register here today.

    * New Art Exhibit for January:  brighten the darker days of winter by taking in the vibrant art at AWPL!  Please come enjoy the digital photography of Peter Kopher, on display in the Community Room and GalleryIn the Board Room, see the artwork of self-taught artist Souzi Montelione captured in Hidden Perceptions.  And in the glass display cases in the Gallery (lower level), enjoy Wheel Whimsy, pottery by Warwick artist Neva Muehlbauer.
