This is the the original stonebridge in Bellvale. It was built in 1832 to take the place of the old wooden one which was unsafe for travel. This image shows how it appeared in about 1907.

Below is the bridge built to replace the massive stone arch bridge. This was built in the 1930s when the state highway 17A was created.

This was probably an improvement in safety but definitely not in appearance. That beautiful handcut stone old archway all destroyed-what a shame!
