Read the book, see the film and join us for a discussion of the popular 2009 novel "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. Set in Jackson Mississippi in 1962, the book tells the story of women who cross boundaries as the civil rights movement explodes around them. The discussion will explore the book and its transition to film.
Copies of the book and the film are available at the Library. The film will be shown at the Library on Saturday, February 25 from 2 to 4:30pm. Registration required.

Astrophysicist Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, has always been passionate about astronomy, and wants to share the excitement with you! Over the 1½ - 2 hours, you’ll learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals. Following the presentation, a powerful telescope will be set up outdoors for viewing the craters on the Moon, the rings of Saturn and other beautiful objects in the night sky, weather permitting.
Join artist Joanne Kelly in the Community Room to discuss her work. Her art will be on display in the Community Room and Gallery during the month of January.
Creeks, streams and rivers flow through a variety of landscapes from highly altered urbanized centers to scenic rural lands. Areas next to streams are particularly challenging because of their susceptibility to flooding, scouring and erosion. In this presentation, we will look at native plants as some of our best streamside planting choices, for their ornamental qualities as well as their ability to support biodiversity and protect stream channels.
