Join artist Joanne Kelly in the Community Room to discuss her work. Her art will be on display in the Community Room and Gallery during the month of January.
Creeks, streams and rivers flow through a variety of landscapes from highly altered urbanized centers to scenic rural lands. Areas next to streams are particularly challenging because of their susceptibility to flooding, scouring and erosion. In this presentation, we will look at native plants as some of our best streamside planting choices, for their ornamental qualities as well as their ability to support biodiversity and protect stream channels.

Greenwood Forest Farms Association will celebrate Black History with a two part program featuring the arts. Filmmaker Patricia DeArcy will preview portions of her new film "The Harlem Cultural Council." Founded in 1964 by Artist Romare Bearden, The Harlem Cultural Council is an African-American arts advocacy group. The film focuses on the Council's innovative use of the "jazz-mobile" and the "dance-mobile" to bring music and dance to the community in the 1960's and 70's. Following the film the Youth Theatre Interactions Inc.
The Library is interested in beginning a chess club for children. We need parents and other interested adults or teens to help us get a chess club started. This program will teach you about the game and give you the skills to teach it to others. We hope that this program will inspire volunteers to begin a weekly or bi-weekly chess club here. This program will be hosted by Michael Kusen, a chess master and author. He belongs to Chess for Teachers. This program is intended for families, and children who attend must be in Kindergarten and up.
