To coincide with the Metro 28 Exhibit, Warwick resident Paul Belfanti will give a presentation on the history of City Without Walls (cWOW) and his 30-year association with it.
City Without Walls (cWOW) is an urban gallery for contemporary art that advances the careers of artists while building the audience for progressive art. It is New Jersey's oldest non-profit alternative art space, in continuous operation in the City of Newark since 1975. Its three-fold mission offers career development opportunities to artists and award-winning arts education programs to local youth, while providing the public the opportunity to understand and enjoy challenging contemporary art. cWOW showcases the work of over 100 emerging artists annually, and offers programs and services designed to address artist and community needs that are not served by other sources. cWOW serves as a vital clearinghouse for information and provides services for artists, arts consumers and arts advocates. Major educational programs include ArtReach, City Murals, and Newark New Media, which are complemented by exhibitions, curatorial opportunities, student lectures, internships, and space rental.
