In general, three steps must be followed before you can transfer materials to your Sony eReader the first time. If you need more detailed instructions or have further questions, please refer to the Quick Start Guide from the Digital Download Center or call the Help Desk at (845) 986-1047 ext.3.
1. Install Adobe Digital Editions
2. Create an Adobe ID
3. Download Sony’s Reader Library
Once these three steps have been taken, your computer will be ready to accept eBook downloads from the library’s Digital Download Center. You will not need to repeat them every time to download an item. If you have already performed these three steps and need help downloading an item and transferring to your eReader, please see Selecting and Downloading an eBook from the Digital Download Center.

Installing Adobe Digital Editions on Your Computer
1. Launch the Digital Download Center from Albert Wisner Public Library’s website (www.albertwisnerlibrary.org) by moving your mouse over Finding Materials.
2. Click on Download eBooks.
3. On the right side of the Download Center’s home page, you will see a heading for Software Downloads. Click on Adobe Digital Editions.
4. On the next page, click on the button that says Get Adobe Digital Editions. Follow the prompts to download the program. A new shortcut will be created on your desktop.

Creating an Adobe ID
1. Open Adobe Digital Editions by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
The Setup Assistant dialog box is displayed, and will remain until your set-up is complete.
2. Click Continue.The “Authorize Computer” screen is displayed.
3. In the appropriate fields, enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID. If you do not already have an Adobe ID, click “get an Adobe ID online” and follow the instructions to sign up for an Adobe ID.
4. Click Activate. Your computer is activated to your Adobe ID.
5. Click Finish to close the “Setup Assistant” dialog box.

Downloading Sony’s Reader Library Software
Note that you must have the Sony eBook Library software installed on your computer to transfer Adobe eBooks to the Sony Reader. If you have already purchased books for your eReader before, then you likely already have Reader Library installed.

Please note that the display of Adobe eBooks on Sony Reader may vary, depending on the nature of the content.

To Activate a Supported Sony Reader Using an Adobe ID

   1. Connect the eBook device to your computer.
   2. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
      Adobe Digital Editions launches and detects the eBook device. The 'Device Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed.
   3. Click 'Authorize Device'.
      Adobe Digital Editions activates the eBook device. You can now transfer DRM-protected Adobe eBooks to the device.
   4. Note that to transfer Adobe eBooks to a supported eBook device, Adobe Digital Editions and the eBook device must be activated using the same Adobe ID.

Selecting and Downloading an eBook from the Digital Download Center

1. Connect eReader to computer using the USB cord provided in its box.

2. A red light will appear to indicate that the eReader is charging. When eReader is connected to the computer, the buttons on the eReader are disabled.  If eReader does not display a message that it is connected, wait until it has charged longer.

3. You will be asked for your Adobe ID when your Reader is connected. Enter the username and password you created in Step 3 in “Creating an Adobe ID.”

4. Launch Digital Download Center from library website. (Mouse over Finding Material, click on Download eBooks.)

5. Select ebook from Digital Download Center, sign into your account with your library card number and PIN; click "Add to Download List."  Note: Your PIN is generally the last four digits of your phone number.  If necessary, call the Help Desk at 986-1047, ext. 3 to obtain your PIN.

6. Click Proceed to Checkout.

7. Change lending period if desired.  21 days is the default setting, but you may choose a shorter lending period, if desired.

8. Confirm your checkout.

9. Click download option.
