The success of last year's Marble Fiction Project, as well as frequent requests, has inspired us to once again put a call out to all aspiring writers to set pen to paper! This year's prompt, Letters to..., is a foray into the world of epistolary novels. This style of fiction first gained popularity in the 17th and 18th centuries, and is a form in which most or all of the plot is advanced by the letters or journal entries of one or more characters.
Please join us at the information session to pick up your notebook.
Some examples of epistolary novels are:
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
Dracula by Bram Stoker
Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
Uncommon Valour by John Stevens
Griffin and Sabine by Nick Bantock
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (winner of the Man Booker prize 2008)
