Always wanted to try kayaking, but don’t know how to get started? Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) trip leader and ACA instructor Don Urmston will tell you how to get started, what gear you’ll need, where to go paddling, where to meet other paddlers and where to get instruction on your technique. See and feel the difference in kayaks, paddles and other equipment at this hands-on presentation. Special attention is given to kayak safety and choosing your first kayak. Whether you just want to paddle occasionally, or you want to become an expert sea kayaker, this program will get you started. Free to all. Presented by ADK Mid-Hudson Chapter.
Donald Urmston has been kayaking for more than 20 years. He enjoys all types of kayaking from quiet water to sea kayaking, and loves to share his passion for kayaking with newcomers to the sport. He holds ACA level 2 coastal touring certification, and works locally teaching beginner and intermediate paddlers.Location:AWPL Community RoomAge Group:Adult, Teen

An informal spinning group focusing on drop spindle yarn method from wool and other fibers. Beginners and more advanced spinners welcome. Bring your own spindle and fiber, or if you are new to this ancient craft, contact us ahead so we can provide "loaners" to you (a small fee for wool used will be collected as arranged in advance). Drop spindle spinning uses a lightweight spindle that is very portable, as opposed to a heavy and expensive spinning wheel. Co-sponsored by the Friends of Hathorn House Historical Society.
Email us ahead of the meeting if you are new and need the loan of a spindle: email@example.com; at your first session, beginner's sample of wool will be available for $5.00Location:AWPL Board RoomAge Group:Adult
