Join us for a lecture on Shakespeare's sonnets, their enduring value and their complex and sometimes disturbing visions of love, with a reading of selected sonnets.

James Schiffer is a Professor of English at SUNY New Paltz.  In addition to publishing essays on various poems and plays by Shakespeare, he has edited collections of essays on Shakespeare's Sonnets (1999) and Twelfth Night (2011), both with Rutledge.  He has directed student/faculty performances of selected Sonnets by Shakespeare, Sonnet Variations, at Hampden-Sydney College and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

This program launches the Library's Sonnet-Writing Competition; complete information will be announced at the program.
