Join us for this six-session program where 9 and 11 year-olds and their parents get together to talk about books and ideas. Books, snacks and activities for younger siblings are all provided at each session. We will be focusing on three themes: (2 books for each theme) Being American, Courage and Freedom. Three picture books and three novels will be read. The picture books are La Mariposa, Martin's Big Words and the Girl Who Loved Wild Horses. The novels are Letters from Rifka, Shiloh, and The Friendship. Books will be loaned to each child and adult that registers. In this uproarious novel, Richard Russo performs his characteristic high-wire walk between hilarity and heartbreak.Russo's protagonist is William Henry Devereaux, Jr., the reluctant chairman of the English department of a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt.Devereaux's reluctance is partly rooted in his character--he is a born anarchist-- and partly in the fact that his department is more savagely divided than the Balkans. - AmazonLocation:AWPL Board Room, Activity RoomAge Group:Adult
