Join us at the Library as we watch and discuss the film Crash (R), winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Picture. The discussion will focus on the concepts of diversity, prejudice, violence and ethics, and help us to think about how we can become more self-aware and socially responsible.
The basic premise of Crash is that even though we come from different walks of life, we are all connected as people. Regardless of our skin color or ethnicity, we are more alike than different. WE often make prejudicial judgments of others, which disconnects and isolates us and inhibits our feelings of empathy. Moving unthinkingly at the speed of life, we are bound to collide, "crashing" into others and treating them disrespectfully and horrifically.
This program is dedicated to the memory of Kevin T. Kless, who was killed on January 14, 2012. Kevin was a graduate of Warwick Valley High School (Class of 2006) and Temple University (Class of 2010).
