This lecture addresses the history of women as seen through the manipulation and controll of their bodies as documented by changing silhouette over a 400 year period. Audience members will be invited to participate in the hands-on-demonstrations. Questions to be answered include:
What is a bumroll?
What item of living room furniture was invented to accomodate the panier?
Why did Mrs. Bloomer invent the bloomers?
How many ribs were removed to achieve the hourglass silhouette of the 1890's?
