Science Book Club reads "My Stroke of Insight" by Jill Bolte Taylor
In four hours, Harvard-trained brain researcher Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor watches her brain deteriorate. "We have a problem," she alerts herself, "Get help!" As the stroke in her left hemisphere shuts down all "brain chatter," she becomes "a helpless infant in a 37 year old woman"s body." And yet she feels euphoric. Taylor reports on the brain/mind/body experience from her privileged viewpoint of full recovery - part a clear description for the layman of human brain structure/function, part outreach to caregivers to give them better tools to help people recover from neuro-trauma, and part the author"s account of her changed and renewing relationship with herself revealed.
