The Albert Wisner Public Library offers computer training classes to the residents that live within the Warwick Valley Central School District.
Below are descriptions of the workshops, which are held.

New Online Training available
Need to learn Computer skills? Brush up on your skills? Do it online through the library.
The Albert Wisner Public Library offers online access (at your own pace) to the following Microsoft programs (and much more): WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, OUTLOOK, POWERPOINT.
Log on to "www.albertwisnerlibrary.org" - click on the Left column "Computer Tutorials and Test Preperation". On the Learning Express page, click Computer Skills then choose the program and level you wish to practice or learn. You will need your Barcode from the back or your library card to sign on). Or go directly to the Link for Learning Express Library.

Computer Training classes at AWPL

Mondays and Fridays, Mornings between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, and Monday evenings, by arrangement with Reference Staff, usually after 6 p.m. Other times by appointment only. Call library to schedule, 845-986-1047 x 3.

Also, by Request, more detailed training can be arranged on most topics (Note: we do not train ‘specific’ programs such as MS Word, Excel, etc.) Call the Reference Desk at 845-986-1047 x 3.

If you are unable to attend an upcoming class, please try to call and cancel your appointment.
*Please note: If no one shows after 15 minutes of the scheduled class appointment, the instructor has the option of cancelling the class.

Class descriptions

PC basics and Using the Online Catalog Workshop
Computer basics such as: Intro to MS Windows, the Mouse, Desktop, saving files to disks, how to turn on and off the computer properly, basic Taskbar, Start and other functions (Versions: Windows 2000 and XP).

The Online Catalog workshop is a beginners workshop that teaches patrons how to search the library's catalog by computer. This workskop is highly recommended to patrons who have never used the online catalog, and for those who want to improve their searching skills. Attendees will learn the fundamentals on how to search for all types of library materials, learn how to find full-text articles from magazines, newspapers and journals, learn how to place a reserve on a book, and learn how to view their patron record.

The Internet for Beginners Workshop
The Internet for Beginners workshop is designed for patrons who have minimal or no experience with the Internet. The workshop starts with an introduction to the Internet given by the instructor, followed by practical exercises using the computer. Attendees of the workshop will learn how the Internet works, learn how to connect to the Internet, and learn basic search techniques for looking up information.

Advanced topics may be : Search Engines (Yahoo, Google), Best Reference Sites, Different Browsers? (IE or Internet Explorer, Mozilla’s Firefox, etc.)
The New Online Catalog (Information Portal) training: Come learn what's new about the online catalog. How to reserve items, access/change your account information, create a new personal login (also available from the 'Quicklinks' on the Main library webpage)
