Allan’s Tree
My beloved brother Allan was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. He went on chemotherapy and was given four months to live. Not long after his diagnosis I was driving home through Amity and saw a huge haunting tree on Newport Bridge Road. It had fairy tale-like proportions with its remarkably long, jagged branches and an enormous fat trunk. It looked very magical so I called it the “wishing tree.” About three times a week I would visit the tree and wish with all my might for Allan’s good health to return.
That was twelve years ago and my brother’s cancer went into remission and he is alive and well today.
The funny thing is, I went by the tree the other day and it looked like an ordinary tree.
