A Journey Through Mindful Parenting: The Facts, Frustrations and Rewards

Presenter Melissa Reali will discuss what she has learned about child development from her training, research, and experiences as an educator, preschool director, and parent. This talk, inspired by Conscious Discipline and the work of Dr. Becky Bailey, emphasizes that mindful parenting is a continuous process. Melissa’s goal is to empower willing caregivers to make informed decisions about what best supports the social-emotional wellbeing of children. Through the creation of a strong parenting community, we are reminded that we are all in this together.  This workshop is for parents, caregivers, and teachers of children from birth through late adolescence.

Childcare will be provided for children under 10yrs upon request a week prior to the program.  Call the Help Desk with the number and ages of the children needing care.  986-1047 ext. 3

Melissa Reali has been a professional educator for nearly twenty years. She earned an MS in Music Education from Queens College and holds permanent New York State teacher certification. Her career began as a band director in the Syosset public schools. When Melissa and her husband relocated to North Carolina in 2009, she entered the world of early childhood education, and fell in love with working with infants and toddlers. During her time working as an infant/toddler specialist, she was introduced to the ideas of Conscious Discipline, Loose Parts, project-based learning, and the importance of nature in play. Melissa spent three and a half years as the Director of The Little School at Duke University, incorporating these beliefs into the curriculum. In 2018 Melissa and her family transitioned back to New York and she is currently a stay-at-home mom.
