Children struggling with special needs stemming from learning disabilities, ADD, and ADHD have challenges in school, at home and in the community. For example, parents may observe that their child experiences homework as “torture,” self-esteem may be lower as their child feels “different” or “less than" siblings or peers, or their child’s frustration results in disruptive behaviors that need to be stopped. Parents may be also frustrated when they feel they must badger school administrators for simple learning accommodations for their child.
This workshop will provide a forum for parents of these children to share challenges, joys and simple solutions. A PowerPoint presentation on homework help tips, maintaining self-esteem while facing challenges, and best practices for behavior management at home will be presented.
Speaker Anne Marie Ramos, LCSW, RPT-S, has worked for over 35 years as a clinical social worker, supervisor and author in the field of families and children in community settings. She currently holds the title of Director of Children's Services of Jewish Family and Children's Services in Passaic, New Jersey.
