The book was published in 1908 after a lifetime of collecting stories of her family and neighbors, reaching back in time to colonial days. What were the seasonal gatherings? What was life like? What astonishing phenomena and events did they witness? Can we find sources that help us know if the richly embroidered stories are at their core true?
