We are making it easier for you to manage your library materials!  Here's how:

  • Effective May 1, 2018, items borrowed at AWPL - whether you found them on the shelf or requested them from another library in our system - now follow AWPL's lending rules.  This change makes due dates more uniform.  Keep your checkout receipt (it makes a great bookmark!) in order to verify due dates.  Note:  stickers on items from other libraries may not reflect the same loan period as on your receipt.  The receipt shows the correct due dates, as does your online library account.  Questions or feedback?  Please call the Circulation Desk at (845) 986-1047, ext. 2.
  • Effective June 1, 2018, most items borrowed from AWPL and from most other RCLS libraries will be subject to courtesy renewal.  If your item is eligible to renew -- that is, there are no holds on it and/or you have not reached its renewal limit -- the item will renew at the end of the day it is due.  If your email address is on file with AWPL, you will receive an email notifying you of the renewal.  Certain types of items may not renew, such as video games or Storytime Kits, and not all RCLS libraries allow courtesy renewal of their materials.  Still, courtesy renewal definitely helps our patrons avoid overdue fines.  NOTE:  courtesy renewal does not apply to checkouts of digital materials on platforms like Overdrive and Hoopla.  It applies only to physical materials checked out at participating libraries.
  • Effective September 1, 2018, children's and young adult (YA) materials are fine-free.  Courtesy "pre-overdue" reminders will still be sent 3 days before an item is due (if your email is on file with AWPL.) Overdue reminders will also be sent 7, 14 and 30 days after the due date - but overdue fines will not accrue.  Items not returned after being 50 days overdue will be considered lost, and the replacement cost of the item will be billed to the patron's library account.

If you have any questions about these changes, please call the Circulation Department at 986-1047, ext. 2.
