The internationally acclaimed Ensemble Chaconne (Peter H. Bloom, baroque flute; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, baroque lute) will perform The Glorious Ones – Music by the Great Late Baroque Masters.
The program includes:
- Quatorzieme Concert by François Couperin
- Prelude and Musette in A Minor for lute by Sylvius Leopold Weiss
- Sonata in G Major Op. 1, No. 5 by Handel
- Fantasia 10 in E major for viola da gamba by Telemann
- Concerto for Lute in D Major by Vivaldi
- Sonata in E Minor BWV 1034 by J.S. Bach
Founded in 1985, Ensemble Chaconne is dedicated to vivid, historically informed performance of renaissance and baroque music on period instruments. The group concertizes widely in the U.S. and abroad. Classical Voice of North Carolina called the group “a powerhouse of great playing,” while MusicWeb International hailed the ensemble's "vitality and character, style and verve." Ensemble Chaconne’s CD Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays was hailed for “vitality and character…style and verve" (MusicWeb International). Ensemble Chaconne’s extensive career includes performances for The National Gallery in London, The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park Florida, The National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, The Edison Theatre in St Louis, the Yale Center for British Art, Jordan Hall in Boston, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Connecticut Early Music Festival, Stamford Friends of Music (NY), The Shakespeare Folio Exhibition at Drew University, The Morton Arboretum Chamber Series (Chicago area), Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music (NE), and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Residency at Davidson College, to name a few.
