    Recently, Critical Race Theory has been all over the news. In fact, it has become quite a hot button topic, even a trigger phrase for some. But what exactly is Critical Race Theory? What are some opposing perspectives and what do policy makers and educators do with Critical Race Theory? Come to a light-hearted talk where you can hear the perspectives of a seasoned equity, diversity, and inclusion professional. Armed with more information you can better make up your own mind about where you stand with regard to CRT.  Dr. Aram deKoven will lead the discusssion.

    Dr. Aram deKoven was born and raised in Westchester County. He holds undergraduate degrees in psychology and music from the State University of New York-Oswego, a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Mercy College and a second Master’s degree in Education and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Cornell University.  He currently serves as the United States Coast Guard Academy's Chief Diversity Officer and director of the Office of Inclusion and Diversity. At the Academy Dr. deKoven is currently working with diverse teams from across the base to raise critical awareness, collect and track disaggregated data, modify and/or create equity-minded policy, and to etch into all strategic planning documents a clear and unambiguous commitment to equity and inclusion.  For more information, click here.

    Relax and melt away stress with the power of Breath and Sound Meditation. In meditation the mind-body system experiences deep rest as it transitions from an active state to a more relaxed and restorative state. While there are many forms of meditation, sound meditation is a practice used for centuries for physical healing, clarity of mind and deep meditation. In this form of meditation we will simply connect with the breath and soothing sound vibrations of Alchemy Crystal bowls to relax the mind and body. Join this 8 week sound meditation program to quiet your mind and learn to switch off the external noises and connect with your inner self. Please register for each individual class.

    Storytelling & Performance Class- Students will merge storytelling & performance and tell their own life story. Through prompts, activities and exercises they will create a performance piece that we will record for them. The goal is to encourage students to use their voice, gain confidence and be creative! No experience necessart, must attend all 3 sessions. Ages 9-12. Register online beginning Sept. 11 at 8:00am.
